AGM Guidance

Updated on

Branch Annual General Meetings (AGMs) are a key part of branch governance and an important opportunity to engage volunteers, members, supporters and stakeholders. They provide a formal occasion to review the previous year's activities, recognise the commitment and achievements of volunteers, discuss future priorities, and demonstrate how the Branch continues to support SSAFA's mission of serving the Armed Forces community.

The AGM has two core purposes:

  • Governance – Ensuring the Branch meets its constitutional and governance responsibilities, including the review of governance arrangements, annual reports and financial performance.
  • Engagement – Bringing together volunteers, members, supporters and partners to celebrate achievements, recognise contributions, strengthen relationships and share future priorities.

The meeting also provides an opportunity for the Branch to demonstrate accountability and transparency, highlighting its impact over the past year and outlining plans and priorities for the year ahead.

A well-planned AGM should be professional, inclusive, informative and inspiring. It should leave attendees with confidence in the Branch's governance, pride in its achievements, and a renewed sense of commitment to supporting the Armed Forces community through SSAFA.
