Introduction
SSAFA Financial Assistance is a much-needed source of funds where cases have a shortfall on pledges once all Assistance Providers have recorded their decisions. However, funds are also utilised in times of crisis and urgent need to provide timely solutions to the challenges our beneficiaries face.
However, SSAFA is not a traditional Assistance Provider and the funds available is mainly that of trust funds acquired as part of a cessation resolution of other, smaller charities.
Requesting Assistance SSAFA Financial Assistance
All SSAFA Caseworkers, Regional Office Employees and Specialist Service employees who have access to the Mosaic Case Management System can send requests to SSAFA Financial Assistance. SSAFA Financial Assistance funds cannot be accessed by other caseworking organisations.
Whilst SSAFA Financial Assistance is in the main to be approached once all Assistance Providers have recorded their decisions on Mosaic, there may be cases whereby an immediate payment may be required where we would expect the Assistance Providers to pledge or where the need is time sensitive. For such cases please contact the Casework Policy & Grants Manager via [email protected]
All requests for a grant are to be submitted using the ‘Request to Charities’ function in ‘Step 3 Assistance Required and Pledged’.
When sending requests, you must send them to ‘SSAFA Financial Assistance and not directly to the named Casework Policy & Grants Manager. Any requests to an individual will be returned.
To assist with expediency please include the exact amount you are seeking within the request and what this is for. We aim for the turnaround responses to requests sent via Mosaic to be no more than 5 working days from the time of submission. However, during times of high demand this may be more. Urgent & Crisis cases
When you have an urgent or crisis case for which you are seeking assistance from SSAFA Financial Assistance please follow the below:
- Contact the Casework Policy & Grants Manager to discuss the need and urgency.
- They will advise on routes of potential support.
- In the event they invite you do send a Request to Charities (which is usually the case) the request must be submitted to SSAFA Financial Assistance on Mosaic as you would usually for any other request.
Eligibility of Trust Funds
The below document sets out the eligibility criteria for the funds that can be awarded via SSAFA Financial Assistance. For applicants and requests that fall outside of the eligibility criteria the Casework Policy & Grants Manager shall have to decline such requests.
