An update about the Digital Marketing Volunteer (DMV) role was sent via email to all DMVs on 15 June 2026. A separate update email was sent via email to all branch chairs and regional volunteer representatives the same day to share relevant information.
Email subject: Your Digital Marketing Volunteer (DMV) role update on GoAssemble
To: all digital marketing volunteers
We’re pleased to confirm that the Digital Marketing Volunteer (DMV) role is now live on GoAssemble (GA). This means volunteers who have been supporting digital activity will be formally assigned to the DMV role. In summary, this is a formal update to your role title; your day-to-day activity and support will remain the same.
Moving forward the DMVs will remain with their branch and work closely with their regional marcomms manager (RMM).
What does this mean for DMV volunteers?
Since moving to GA, your role title has been Community Engagement Volunteer (CEV), although many of you have continued to carry out digital marketing activities.
When you move into the DMV role, your day-to-day activity will remain the same. The main change is that your role title on GA will now accurately reflect what you do.
You can see the DMV role description here.
DMVs will also keep their Office (O)365 accounts moving forward. If you don’t currently have an O365 account please submit a ticket to the Volunteer Experience (VE) Team, via the ‘Contact Us’ button in GoAssemble, and one will be set up for you.
When will this happen?
Your role will be updated on Thursday, 18 June. You don’t need to take any action; the update will be carried out by our systems team.
How will I be supported?
1. Branch Support:
Your branch chair will remain your manager on GA and will continue to provide support through regular check-ins, as they do with all branch volunteers. Your branch team will also continue to provide local content and updates for you to promote.
2. Marketing and Communications Support:
Your Regional Marcomms Manager (RMM) will support you as a subject matter expert in digital communications and work collaboratively with you and the branch.
They will:
- Advise on content and brand, ensuring everything fits with the SSAFA ethos.
- Support the development of a regional communication plan, to help you maximise your impact.
- Run monthly drop-in sessions, to help support you in the role and provide an opportunity for DMVs to meet their peers.
- Share a monthly content and ideas document, to promote consistency across local and national content sharing.
Here are the contact details for all RMMs. If you have any questions or would like to chat about developing your digital marketing plan, please get in touch with your RMM.

3. Regional Support

Resources
We have a number of resources available to you:
How do I claim expenses?
The expenses process hasn’t changed, you can continue to claim expenses, on GA, under the DMV role. Follow this link to learn more about how to claim expenses.
Can I support more than one branch as a DMV?
Yes, absolutely. If you’re acting as a DMV for more than one branch, you’ll be assigned the role within each branch team on GA. The only impact is on expenses - you’ll need to submit separate claims for each branch, so they can be approved and paid by the correct one.
What if I want to stay as a community engagement volunteer (CEV)?
For some of you, you may have been a CEV for a number of months, and have enjoyed being involved with community engagement activities, which will no longer sit within your role remit as a DMV. If you would like to remain as a CEV alongside your DMV role please let your RMM know before 18 June and they will arrange to have your GA profile updated accordingly.
Thank you for your continued support and for the valuable work you do to promote SSAFA locally. We look forward to continuing to work together to share the great things that SSAFA and our volunteers do.
Kind Regards,
The Regional Marcomms team
Email subject: GoAssemble update: Digital Marketing Volunteer (DMV) role will go live
To: All branch chairs
Copied to: Regional volunteer representatives
We’re pleased to confirm that the Digital Marketing Volunteer (DMV) role will be live shortly on GoAssemble (GA). This means volunteers who have been supporting digital activity will be formally assigned to the DMV role. We have also sent an email to all DMVs directly, with all the relevant information regarding this update.
Moving forward the DMVs will remain with their branch and work closely with their regional marcomms manager (RMM).
What does this mean in reality?
Since the NDP rollout, DMVs have been working under the Community Engagement Volunteer (CEV) role while continuing their digital marketing activity.
They will have a formal role title on GA as DMVs shortly. The role description has been updated to fit the GoAssemble format but is essentially the same and can be viewed by following this link.
As branch chair, you will remain their manager on GA and continue to provide the same support and supervision as you do for other volunteers.
When will this happen?
The role will be updated on Thursday, 18 June. You don’t need to take any action; the update will be carried out by our systems team.
Who covers DMV expenses?
DMVs will continue to claim expenses via GA, which will be paid from the branch admin account.
What support will the RMM provide?
Your Regional Marcomms Manager (RMM) will support DMVs as a subject matter expert in digital communications and work collaboratively with DMVs and the branch.
They will:
- Advise on content and branding, ensuring everything fits with the SSAFA ethos.
- Support the development of a regional communication plan, to help maximise impact.
- Run monthly drop-in sessions, to help support DMVs in the role and provide an opportunity for DMVs to meet their peers.
- Share a monthly content and ideas document, to promote consistency across local and national content sharing.
What about recruiting DMVs?
As branch chair, you are in the best position to identify if a DMV is required.
If you identify a need for a DMV, you will:
- Agree requirements with your RMM.
- Support interviews alongside the RMM where possible.
The RMM will:
- Manage the recruitment process on GoAssemble.
- Lead induction and training (including mandatory training, digital tools, and brand awareness).
- Liaise with the national social media team to facilitate access to appropriate systems.
Here are the contact details for all RMMs. If you have any questions or would like to chat about developing your digital marketing plan, please get in touch with your RMM.
