Important Update: Digital Marketing Volunteers

Updated on

This email was sent to all active Digital Marketing Volunteers, across the network, on 16 July 2025.

To: All Digital Marketing Volunteers

Thank you for your continued dedication as a Digital Marketing Volunteer (DMV). Your work is vital in promoting SSAFA locally, and we truly appreciate your efforts.

There have been several recent changes at SSAFA, including the rollout of the Network Delivery Project (NDP), a restructure within the Fundraising, Marketing and Communications (FMC) Directorate, and the departure of Nikki Durnell from her previous role which directly supported you.

The good news is that FMC is currently recruiting six Regional Marcomms Managers (RMMs), who will provide you with day-to-day support and expertise. The RMM team will be managed by our Senior Storytelling Manager, Laura Mitchell. We are excited to say they are expected to be in post by October 2025. Learn more about the FMC changes here.

Interim support

Once in place the RMM in your region will become your main point of contact and subject matter experts there to support you. For the next few months to ensure that you can continue with your role as usual, you’ll be directly assisted by FMC in a number of ways:

  • The Digital team and our Senior Storytelling Manager will be setting up a group drop-in session in August – you will receive an invitation to this soon.

  • You will receive regular campaign updates from the Marcomms team with ideas for local use.

  • You can access digital and social media guidance on SSAFAnet.

Support contacts:

  • Social media queries: [email protected]
  • Microsite/website queries: [email protected]
  • Local content: Your Branch Chair or Community Engagement Manager*
  • Volunteer experience/recruitment: Your Volunteer Development Manager*

*Find your local contacts via this link.

Looking Ahead

The new RMM team will meet with the Senior Storytelling Manager and the Head of Communications in October, to start drafting a strategy for 2026 and establish how we can best support you to continue the outstanding work you already do in your local areas.

We look forward to involving you all in shaping this strategy and your thoughts, feedback and experiences will be sought in the Autumn – therefore ensuring that we strengthen our collaborative working and continue to raise the profile of SSAFA by informing people of the amazing work that is happening throughout our regions and within our Specialist Services.

DMVs and the Network Delivery Project (NDP)

If the NDP hasn’t reached your region yet or you haven’t had the chance to look at the ‘why’ ‘what’ and ‘how’ of this change programme, then please refer to our NDP SSAFAnet page and the information on the Volunteer Knowledgebase.

This section briefly explains what it means for you at the moment:

Currently within the NDP model, the DMV role is included under the broad role of Community Engagement Volunteer (CEV). However, during the NDP trials last year, it was clear that your role provides a distinct and specialised function to the branches and region as a whole. We are therefore pleased, with your help, to be developing a dedicated, standalone role profile for DMVs in NDP.

If you are currently in an NDP area, or due to transition this year, you will initially appear as a Community Engagement Volunteer (CEV) on GoAssemble (GA), which is the new volunteer management system. Don’t worry, this is just a temporary situation whilst FMC work with you to define the future strategy and therefore possibly update the DMV role description - you are still able to continue all your usual DMV activities during this period.

Once things are finalised you will see an update on GA to move you from the more all-encompassing CEV role to that of a DMV, and your RMM will provide you with expertise and leadership. For those of you moving into NDP during the first half of 2026 (South West, North East, North West, Scotland and Overseas) you will move directly into the updated DMV role as you transition in.

We can confirm that you will currently retain your Microsoft Office 365 account when moving into NDP.

Many thanks,

The Senior Digital Marketing Manager and the NDP team
