The role of your Regional Marcomms Manager

Updated on

In line with SSAFA’s transition to a six-region structure within Welfare Operations, announced on 17 April, we’re excited to introduce a new approach to marketing and communications that will bring us all closer together. We’re creating six Regional Marcomms Manager (RMM) roles, which will be directly aligned with our new regional structure.

These roles are designed to strengthen SSAFA’s presence and engagement on the ground. By building closer working relationships with the regional offices and volunteer teams, we’ll ensure that the needs and voices of local communities are heard at a regional level. This will be reflected in our national campaigns making our communications feel more connected, responsive and trusted at every level.

By working more closely, we’ll be able to gather the stories, data and insights that help us reach more beneficiaries and supporters. This will allow us to showcase the powerful impact of our work across the UK.

  • Each RMM will support their region’s activity by being on the ground three days a week, working face-to-face with regional colleagues and volunteers – from regional chairs to local teams and regional offices. Their purpose is to support regional activity, including helping teams plan and deliver local communications, storytelling and promotion.

  • They will also spend two days a week feeding insights, stories and impact back into the central Marketing and Communications (MarComms) team – making sure that regional successes shape our national brand and messaging.

  • These roles will manage the Digital Marketing Volunteers (DMVs) within their region, once in post.

This is a new way of working for SSAFA, aimed at strengthening connections, supporting local delivery, and ensuring we’re all pulling in the same direction – from national campaigns to community-level activity

For now, nothing changes day-to-day.

  • DMVs should continue working with current central contacts and processes. Our team will be in touch directly over the coming weeks to talk through the handover and what comes next.

  • We’re in the process of recruiting these new managers and expect them to be in post over the summer.

Once in role, you can expect to see more regular face-to-face contact, stronger links between regional and central MarComms, and support that feels closer to the ground and more tailored to your needs.
