In line with SSAFA’s transition to a six-region structure within Welfare Operations, announced on 17 April, we’re excited to introduce a new approach to marketing and communications that will bring us all closer together. We have created six Regional Marcomms Manager (RMM) roles, which directly align with our new regional structure.
These roles are designed to strengthen SSAFA’s presence and engagement on the ground. By building closer working relationships with the regional offices, volunteer teams, and local stakeholders, we’ll ensure that the needs and voices of local communities are heard at a regional level. This will be reflected in our national campaigns making our communications feel more connected, responsive and trusted at every level.
What Regional Marcomms Managers (RMMs) do
RMMs are responsible for leading all marketing and communications in their region. This includes:
- Delivering regional communications and PR activity that supports fundraising, volunteer recruitment, and awareness goals.
- Managing the Digital Marketing Volunteers (DMVs) within the region and coordinating community-level activities.
- Building relationships with local media, volunteers, and beneficiaries to raise SSAFA’s profile.
- Developing case studies and stories that show the impact of our work and can be used regionally and nationally.
- Supporting regional teams with communications planning and integrated campaign delivery.
- Contributing to national campaigns, brand activations and organisational messaging, ensuring that regional voices are represented.
While regional responsibilities remain their main focus, RMMs play a key role in national projects and priorities, helping to strengthen SSAFA’s profile and impact across the UK.
How they’ll work with you
This is a new way of working for SSAFA, aimed at strengthening connections, supporting local delivery, and ensuring we’re all pulling in the same direction – from national campaigns to community-level activity.
RMMs will be a close point of contact for regional colleagues and volunteers, providing support with communications, campaign delivery and media engagement. To make sure this new way of working meets everyone’s needs, a feedback process is in place so that both regions and RMMs can regularly share what’s working well and where improvements can be made.

When to expect them
We’re expecting them to be in post by 16th September 2025.
Once in role, you can expect:
- More regular face-to-face contact and media support in your region.
- Stronger links between regional and national Marcomms.
- Support that is focused on high-impact, strategically aligned activity to help raise SSAFA’s profile and reach more people.
For now, DMVs should continue working with current central contacts and processes. Our team will be in touch directly over the coming weeks to talk through the handover and what comes next.
