Branch Honorary Life Membership

Updated on

This article details what a Branch Honorary Life Membership (BHLM) is and how Branch Chairs can request a BHLM for a volunteer.

What is a Branch Honorary Life Membership

Branch Honorary Life Membership (BHLM) can be awarded by a branch to a local volunteer as a form of recognition of contribution and support to SSAFA, and to retain continued connection between the volunteer and SSAFA. A BHLM should only be awarded to a volunteer who is no longer actively volunteering within the branch, however they can still be actively volunteering for another service (e.g. Mentor).

Being awarded Branch Honorary Lifetime Membership is a profound recognition of unwavering dedication, compassion, and service to the local Armed Forces community.

It reflects years of voluntary commitment, supporting veterans, and their families with empathy and integrity.

This honour not only acknowledges the member’s outstanding contributions to the branch’s work but also symbolises the deep respect and gratitude of fellow volunteers and the wider SSAFA family.

It is a lasting tribute to someone whose efforts have made a meaningful and enduring impact on the lives of others.

Those with a BHLM will receive a certificate signed by the branch chair and/or the branch president.

BHLM will be recorded centrally by the Volunteer Experience Team, to ensure that we accurately capture and celebrate the outstanding contributions of these volunteers. However, the relationship with the individual will be maintained by the branch.

How to register a BHLM and request a certificate

Branch Honorary Life Membership certificates can be ordered from the Volunteer Experience Support Team who will arrange for the certificate to be printed and despatched for signature (by the branch president or branch chair).

Requesting a BHLM Certificate - To order a certificate and to enable volunteer records to be updated requests are to be submitted by completing the BHLM Award Form.

Certificates will be printed for the signatory to sign and record the date of award. Please allow up to 2 weeks for receipt of certificate on submission of BHLM Award Form.

Further information and support is available from the Volunteer Experience Support team at [email protected].
