Volunteer Role SCT Events and Fundraising Coordinator
Volunteer Manager Serving Community Team Chair
Where you will be based Community

Why we want you

There is a SSAFA presence throughout the serving community, both in the UK and overseas. Our Serving Community Teams offer financial, practical, and emotional support to serving personnel and their families. Each team consists of a group of dedicated volunteers who make this possible. That’s where you come in. Events and Fundraising Coordinators play a key role helping with the development and delivery of a local fundraising plan, as well as attending fundraising activities. Depending on the size of the Serving Community Team, you may also have Fundraising Volunteers who can provide additional support. You will have access to SSAFA’s Marketing Hub and social media team for promotional materials and help with raising awareness of events.

What you will be doing

  • Working closely with the Chair and other volunteers to establish an annual plan of activities, coming up with creative ideas to raise funds and awareness.
  • Hosting and attending fundraising events.
  • Keeping in touch with Fundraising Volunteers within the team, to understand their availability, skills and strengths.
  • Using SSAFA’s online Marketing Hub for all SSAFA branded publicity resources, maintaining stock locally.
  • Promoting the work of SSAFA and the SCT through social media and sharing case studies and good news stories with SSAFA’s PR and social media teams.
  • Being an ambassador for SSAFA, building positive relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Collaborating with any Community Connection Champions by sharing your local knowledge.

The skills you need

  • Friendly and approachable, with effective communication skills, including written and spoken English.
  • Experience of organising and running groups, activities, or events.
  • Ability to travel to venues (out of pocket travel expenses will be reimbursed in line with SSAFA policy).
  • IT skills to be able to communicate online, through social media and access eLearning courses.
  • Excellent understanding of the importance of boundaries and confidentiality.
  • Non-judgemental approach in alignment with SSAFA’s values and standards.
  • A willingness to adhere to all relevant organisational policies and procedures.
  • We welcome volunteers of all backgrounds, abilities, races, sexual orientations, socio-economic backgrounds, and of all faiths and none. SSAFA is committed to making reasonable adjustments to support volunteers with disabilities, so they have access to the same opportunities and experiences as volunteers who do not.

What's in it for you

  • Give back to the serving community.
  • Support people in your local serving community using your skills, knowledge, and life experience.
  • Gain experience, training, and skills that you can highlight on your CV and in job interviews.
  • Receive support and friendship from your local Serving Community Team and the wider SSAFA community.
  • Better physical and mental health – studies show that volunteers live longer and experience lower levels of stress and depression!

Disclaimer

SSAFA is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all those involved in our work and expects volunteers to share this commitment.
