What Are Community Connection Champions?

Updated on

SSAFA’s Community Connection Champions are volunteers from their local volunteer-led Serving Community Team (SCT) who support members of the serving community by creating welcoming, engaging group activities or events that bring people together and help build connections and alleviate loneliness and isolation.

The groups, activities or events are sociable and of interest to the community. It could be a group run weekly for a six-week period; this could be evenings, weekends or during the week, or a new ongoing activity that fits well with the serving community.

Face to face sessions are likely to run in community venues but we have also had virtual groups, which support those who can’t attend in person. The Community Connection Champions unique local knowledge provides the best support as they know what else is taking place locally which avoids duplication of support.
