This role is only applicable to SSAFA France which is set up as a separate legal entity from SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity. This volunteer role ensures that it is able to fully comply with in-country regulations.

Why we want you

Our branches are an integral part of SSAFA’s success. With a visible presence in local communities, they raise vital awareness of and funds for our work. They also provide a supportive and enriching community for our volunteers. This role is specific to SSAFA’s operations in France, reflecting the unique local operating environment while remaining an integral part of the wider SSAFA organization.

You will provide peer support for caseworkers within your branch. You will play a key role in building confidence, competence, and a sense of community around caseworkers, enabling them to deliver high quality casework and thrive in role.

You will support the branch executive team in developing and delivering the branch vision and plans, coordinating events and activities and communicating with branch volunteers and other stakeholders to build a successful and supportive branch community. 

What you will be doing

  • Signposting potential clients to the Regional Office.
  • Providing remote and in-person support to caseworkers from across your region, answering process and systems questions where appropriate.
  • Sharing local knowledge that can be harnessed in support of beneficiaries.
  • Allowing new/returning caseworkers to shadow your own case visits when requested.
  • Keeping the Regional Office team informed of any caseworker support needs you identify.
  • Referring volunteers to the regional office team for case specific questions.
  • Act as a point of contact in all matters of the branch, including enquiries from potential volunteers.
  • Communication with caseworkers and branch volunteers through GoAssemble, ensuring people are kept up to date with news, events and activities and sharing success.
  • Creating a welcoming, inclusive and diverse environment to ensure all volunteers feel valued and supported. 

The skills you need

  • Active SSAFA caseworker with at least 6 months recent experience, up to date with training and checks.
  • Friendly and approachable, with good listening skills.
  • Great written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic IT skills, and frequent user of Assemble and Mosaic systems.
  • Keeping up to date with SSAFA news, service updates and training.
  • Be a positive SSAFA role model, promoting our values and BRAVE standards.
