Beneficiaries as Volunteers – Process

If you have used any of the services we offer at SSAFA, making you a Beneficiary, and wish to become a SSAFA volunteer then this policy will explain when a SSAFA Beneficiary can apply to become a volunteer with us.

A current beneficiary cannot apply for any role as a volunteer in our Welfare Delivery services. However, a former beneficiary is welcome to apply once they have ceased being a beneficiary for 3 months. The completion of the beneficiary’s case is when they are no longer considered a current beneficiary.

If you have stopped being a beneficiary for more than 3 months and apply to one of our roles, you can follow the same process as other applicants. Please do bear in mind the distinction that exists between a beneficiary and a volunteer:

  • Beneficiary: Anyone who uses or benefits from SSAFA’s services
  • Volunteer: Somebody who donates their time, skills and expertise to support SSAFA’s work without financial reimbursement beyond reasonable out of pocket expenses. This is support undertaken by choice and is unpaid.

Current Volunteer Becoming a Beneficiary:

Should a current volunteer become a beneficiary, their role and MOSAIC access must be paused, with the opportunity to resume their former role arising 3 months after their case is closed.
