Volunteer's Guide to One-to-One Discussion

SSAFA wants to ensure that you feel supported in your role and that you have regular one to one support discussions with your named point of contact for your role and service area.

This guide will help you to prepare for a one-to-one conversation and outlines the points that will be covered in your one to one conversation. This is also your time to bring anything you wish to discuss out with these topics.

Your Wellbeing

  • How are you? How are things going? Check in on your wellbeing and any impact that volunteering is having.

Your Role

  • What do you enjoy most about the role

  • Is your volunteering role manageable? How can SSAFA ensure your role is manageable?

  • Are there any elements of the role that you do not enjoy or would like to do less of? Anything that is a challenge?

  • What can we do to support you with these?

Learning & Personal Development

  • Are you up to date with your mandatory training (check on assemble before meeting)

  • What further training can SSAFA provide to support you in your role.

  • How can we help improve your experience? Anything we could be doing differently?

Keeping Safe when Volunteering

  • Are you aware of how to keep yourself safe when volunteering?

  • Have you any concerns for your safety when volunteering?

  • Are you aware of how to keep beneficiaries safe, both their data and safeguarding? Do you know how to raise a safeguarding or Data Protection issue?

Volunteer Recognition

  • What are you most proud of with your volunteering? What has gone well?

  • Do you feel valued in your role?

  • How can SSAFA improve how we value volunteers?
